Workshops
Our workshops are designed to give you tools for life after abuse:
Narcissism and Abusive Behavior
This workshop will offer a working definition of the following terms: narcissism, abuse, and
violence. Discussion will include the correlation between narcissistic behavior and abuse
on a continuum, as it relates to the cycle of domestic violence. The long-term effects of
trauma on life experience will be examined.
In Love with an Illusion The characteristics of an abusive/narcissistic person will
be discussed, and behaviors learned from the previous workshop will be explored further.
This will include the ways in which a person's reality can become distorted, and how
belief systems in relationships and families can become harmful and abusive.
Violence: Is it a Form of Addiction?
The criteria used to define addiction are also present in violent relationships.
Discussion will promote a deeper understanding of the dynamics of abusive behavior
and resulting trauma that can be experienced even at the cellular level.
Secrets Create Sickness
Violence is a learned behavior, just like racism, sexism, and homophobia. These and other
forms of disease and distortion are based in early childhood trauma and socialized conditioning.
Fear and disrespect are examined as common denominators of violence and abuse. Discussion includes independent thinking skills and strategies.
Genograms: Dispelling the Myths of Family Dynamics
This workshop introduces the genogram as a tool to identify family patterns of thinking
and behavior that have been perpetuated generationally. Additional clarity can offer an
alternative perspective of oneself and family issues, and can enhance one's efforts to
change dysfunctional behavior and interrupt the cycle of violence, distortion, and/or addiction.
